Cons: bad communication, customer service, opening hours
We had been looking at different Credit Unions and Banks for getting a home loan and had decided to try U of I Credit Union. We opened and account and talk to the Real Estate Department about our situation and they said they would definitely be able to help. We prepared a ton of documents for them which took days to get a hold of, and we had also spent many hours doing this. They gave everything to their underwriters and said that everything looked good. We had put a bid in on a house and needed a pre-approval letter from the bank, which that had provided. Then after our offer was accepted and we were going to move forward on the house, they told use that the underwriters had decided not to approve the loan because of our current credit score. They had already check it in the beginning and said it wouldn't be a problem, then changed their minds. Another big problem with U of I Credit Union was that their hours of service were useless. By the time I got off work they would be closed. They didn't have any branches inside grocery stores or anything like that. So, no extra hours at all. Nothing on Saturdays or Sundays, and nothing past your usual work day. We ended up closing our accounts out just 2 days later all of this happen. We got the feeling that the staff did not care about us as people or their customers, and the visits that we had with them felt so un-personal and weird.
