The Secret Wife is an intense romance that begins in Russia. I find myself recently delving into historical romance novels. This book caught my attention because it happens in Russia as the last Czar's family falls from favor as war erupts. Dmitri (which happens to be my favorite male Russian name) falls in love with one of the Grand Duchess' of Russia. They carry on a courtship that is met with approval by the royal family, but is torn apart when the Romanov family is killed. Dmitri, believing that his beloved is still alive, spends years searching for her. He finally settles into a quiet, mostly satisfied life, while mourning the loss of Tatiana.
The story is bittersweet. Dmitri does his best to move past the sadness of his past. Just when you think you know how the story will end, there is a twist to make you stay intrigued. I couldn't put this book down. I stayed up later into the night just to finish this book!
