Kitty basically refuses to eat patés, but that’s not much of a problem since she only gets about an ounce of canned food per feeding. There are plenty of shreds, “filets,” flakes and chunks out there, so she still gets a variety – but not of so-called “supermarket cat foods”: no Whiskas or Old Roy for her! That’s why I was interested in a food I’d never seen before: Nulo Beef and Rainbow Trout Recipe, from Nulo’s Medal Series, when I found it at my local PetsMart.
This food is a stew with meat “shreds” and bits of fruits and vegetables in a thick broth. The meat comprises beef, beef liver, and rainbow trout; along with peas, cranberries, blueberries, and pumpkin. The first ingredient is beef, followed by beef and herring broths and beef liver. Rainbow trout comes in at number six, with dried egg white at number 5. No grains are in the ingredients, unlike foods like Friskies and Meow Mix that also have artificial colorings and flavors.
The real test, however, is kitty’s reaction– and clearly loves her Nulo. Since she gets an ounce at a time, the three-ounce can lasts a day and a half. She’s just as pleased to see her serving on the second day. I’m very pleased with this brand and added it to the list of “foods kitty loves” after just one can.
