Canon 18x50 IS Image Stabilized All Weather
There is no comparison with the quality and performance of the Canon 18x50 binoculars. The 18x magnification and 50mm lens give incredible viewing ability whether viewing the stars, Mars or Jupiter. I could literally see several planets and their moons while gazing up in the sky at night using my Canon binoculars. This was the major reason I made the purchase. At the baseball game, even with less than perfect seats, I was able to view the entire game in detail. I could see the sweat on the pitcher's brow, during the game. At the beach there are no worries in the high humidity and always wet conditions. The Canon is water resistant and I could view way beyond the shoreline, off the coast to the sailboats passing by in the distance. The binoculars also have an amazing image stabilizing feature. It is difficult to hold the unit still for long periods of time when viewing the stars, even if I have an even hand. When I pressed the stabilizing button, my shaky hand was overcome, and the image became completely stable. No more shake and no more blur. There is also a a tripod socket for added stability if I want to set it down for viewing over long periods of time in one specific location. The focus and zoom are very intuitive and easy to use. I have limited experience with cameras and sophisticated binoculars but I had no trouble getting the unit working immediately. I have used several other binoculars but none had the high magnification combined with the sleek ergonomic size. With just 1 lithium battery I was good for several hours of high powered viewing. I draped the Canon around my neck with the strap provided but I didn't want to risk tapping the lens against a hard surface by accident and compromising the lens, so I mostly carried it in the case, which also came with the purchase. I must add that this Canon binocular unit is rather expensive. If you don't have a specific reason in mind to purchase such a high end product you may be satisfied with something a bit less pricy with similar capabilities. But honestly, I found it to be worth it. The only negative was the case and the strap which came with the purchase. Both were not high quality. The strap was too narrow and the case was not of sufficient quality. It was not durable enough to protect the unit to my satisfaction.
