Pros: complete kit, vibrant color
Cons: bleach smell is very strong, damages hair, long hair calls for two kits, stains everything it touches

I decided I wanted to add a bit of non-traditional color to my hair. Since I have been dyeing my own hair for over 20 years, I had no worries doing it again. I chose the Splat! in royal blue to use on my darker hair. It was the worst hair color I have ever used.

The first problem I noticed was the bleach- it has such a strong stench I not only opened a window, I turned on a fan as well. The bleach also took forever to work, and I have never had that issue when bleaching my hair before. The second problem was the color itself. This blue stained everything it encountered, even things I didn't realize it came into contact with! It was messy to apply, and it continually dripped.

On the plus side, the color did show up in my hair, and everything I needed did come in the single kit. However, the color lasted much longer than a semi-permanent hair color should, and it left my hair damaged in multiple areas. I will never use this color again and I highly recommend against it for others looking for a unique hair color.

I totally agree with you, Melanie! I dye my hair all the time and usually either use Pravana or Manic Panic, with the occasional Ion Semi-Permanent. One day, I didn't have time to run to CosmoProf or to Sally's, so I wound up using Splat. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! I had a stained scalp, stained hands, stained everything and NOTHING I did would take this horrible color off. And I do agree. The bleach smells way worse than bleach ever should. I use bleach from Sally's with developer and it never smells that way. It takes forever to work and it doesn't even give good results. This is a really damaging dye and it's a pain to get back out of your hair. I seriously recommend Manic Panic or Pravana for eccentric colors!

If you like brighter, bolder, not found in nature hair colors then the Splat! brand in general tends to be a good choice, especially as it is reasonably priced and easy to find both on and offline. However, experience coloring my own and my daughter's hair with Splat! Read more

I really like to switch it up when it comes to my hair. I've had my hair almost every color imaginable and I never get sick of experimenting. When I was in Wal-Mart, I was looking at hair dyes because it was time to touch up my platinum blonde. Read more
