As a lover of entertainment, and one who has a number of HTPC (Home Theater PC) devices in my home and office, I need something to make updating, controlling, and using these PCs easier. Granted, they all have remote controls, but sometimes typing, or moving files, is necessary. Because of this I looked around for a smaller, wireless keyboard that I could move from computer to computer whenever I needed to do something, without having to keep a keyboard and mouse connected at all times.
Logitech K400 Wireless Keyboard
The Logitech K400 wireless keyboard fits the bill perfectly. Not only is it smaller and portable, but it includes a trackpad built into the end of the keyboard as well, essentially turning it into both a keyboard and mouse. The keyboard uses a small USB dongle to make the connection to the computer, and does not require additional drivers to be installed before use. This is, of course, a pretty big deal.
The keys on the keyboard are a little smaller than standard, which is necessary due to its overall size. The trackpad is a little difficult for me to use, but that is primarily due to the fact that I don't get along very well with trackpads anyway. But for what I need it for, the occasional file transfer or update, it's perfect. It's small enough to be stored away when not in use, but just large enough to be functional and usable.
The greatest thing about this keyboard, though, is battery life. The K400 has an on/off switch on the side to help preserve the batteries. I have had this keyboard well over a year, and haven't had to change the batteries yet.
