Vick's NyQuil Cold & Flu Medicine photo by shanoko
This medicine is good to keep on hand in the colder months of the year. It relieves pain well, lets you calm down and relax so that you can sleep better when you're sick.
I got the dreaded "swine flu" back when I was living on my own and going to university. I went out and bought myself a bottle of NyQuil, went home, and spent three days mostly just sleeping. Without the NyQuil, I wouldn't have been able to sleep, because of the fever. This medicine kept my fever down and kept me feeling comfortable enough that I was able to rest, drink fluids, and ultimately get better.
These days I always keep some NyQuil at home just in case anyone gets sick. Even if you just have a bad cold, NyQuil is extremely helpful in letting you get a good night's rest, and you feel SO MUCH better in the morning after you've got a good sleep.
Like all cold & flu medicines, you have to be extremely cautious about only using this medicine when necessary and only using the dosage as described. I recommend only taking it for nighttime sleep, not a nap, even if you're sick, because if you take NyQuil and only want to sleep for 3 hours, you'll have a hard time feeling "awake" when you do wake up. It's best to just take it for your long nighttime sleep and let the medicine run its course while you sleep.
