As both a mother and an arts educator, I've used Crayola's model magic more times than I can remember. This is one of my favorite modeling compounds. It is easy to use, easily adaptable and great for kids of all ages! The compound is easy to mold for little fingers, but still sturdy enough for older kids to enjoy sculpting with.
It's soft and easier to mold than modeling or traditional air dry clay. That said, it is still sturdy enough to make standing sculptures (such as animals). It's stretchy quality also makes it easy to use in flatter types of art projects. While working with children at a museum's art studio, I used to use this product for a raised relief activity in which the children added it on top of cardboard to make a slightly lifted design.
Another aspect of this product that I enjoy is the ability to color it yourself. Although you can buy different colors of Model Magic, kids can create their own hues by coloring it with markers or painting it.
When the crafting is done you can ball it back up and save it for later or let it air dry. When the model magic air dried it hardens in a similar manner to clay.
Another positive aspect of this Crayola product is the price. the price is low in comparison to other clays, making it a great value for the money.
