Our family didn't get our first Sony PlayStation 3 in December of 2012. The first one we got was this full sized version and not the PlayStation 3 Slim. When we first got the console, we were impressed with the features it had. One of the coolest features about the PS3 is that it not only plays PlayStation 3 video games, but it also has the ability to play both DVD and Blu-Ray discs as well. The Blu-Ray disc compatibility is an upgrade from what this console's predecessor, the Sony Playstation 2 was able to do. Also, unlike the PS2, the PS3 also has built-in high speed internet compatibility as well as HDMI. Once we got it all set up and connected to the home wi-fi, we were able to access the Sony PlayStation Network, which is Sony's online digital media and gaming service. From the PlayStation network you can download both free and paid PS3 compatible games, software, music and video applications, eBooks, and even full length television shows and movies. In the PlayStation Store part of the Playstation Network, you can download demo versions of popular games and try them before you decide whether or not to purchase them, so that's a pretty cool feature. We also like the music and video apps. You can stream music on the PS3 from apps like Pandora and you can watch free videos on apps like YouTube. You can rent and/or purchase your favorite TV show series as well as your favorite movies.
Another pretty awesome feature of the Playstation 3 video game console is that gives you the option of playing compatible games two different ways: PS3 game discs and downloadable games. It's almost like having a video game console and a PC computer in one amazing device. It loads the video games quickly and easily and the graphics are really incredible and very realistic-looking. The downloadable games are a nice feature because once you download them, they belong to you forever and you can save them on your console's hard disk drive or you can even save them onto a USB storage device as a backup. That way, if your PS3 ever stops working properly, you will have your games on the USB storage so that if you get a replacement console, you can load them right onto your new console easily and conveniently.
The PS3 also has Bluetooth compatibility. This is a great feature because, you can attach wireless PS3 controllers to your console through the Bluetooth connectivity. You can also wirelessly connect other Bluetooth accessories and devices to your PS3 console. Headsets and keyboards are 2 very popular wireless accessories that we use with our PlayStation console on a regular basis, and our PS3 works very well with both of them. Since you can use the PS3 to play online games with other PS3 players all over the world, the Bluetooth devices really add to and enhance the multi-player online experience.
The only flaws the PS3 original console seems to have is it tends to freeze up sometimes when playing games, when it starts to heat up, the fan gets pretty loud and annoying, and not all models are backwards-compatible with PS2 games. Other than that, I would recommend the PlayStation 3 video game console to anyone who enjoys a high-tech gaming experience.
