Pros: brings back shine, little goes a long way, removes limescale
Cons: not good for environment

I have recently moved to London and when I first moved into my flat everything was all clean and shiny, however within a few weeks the showers, taps and sink started building lime scale residue and no matter how much I cleaned and scrubbed the surfaces nothing seemed to work. I have used a few different cleaning products, but especially the shower was badly affected. I have glass panels in the shower, which had a thick tough-to-clean layer of lime scale.

I have tried the standard products such as lemon and vinegar, but that didn’t help either. Unfortunately, the water here in and around London is really hard and the lime scale is able to build up quickly. It can be quite frustrating, especially when you are trying to clean everything yet nothing seems to work and the shower and skin areas all have these lime scale and watermarks. Even when I am able to get it off after hours and hours of scrubbing, as soon as I use the sink or the shower, the marks will come back. I felt like I had to clean every single day, just to make sure to keep everything nice and clean.

I recently came across Viakal when I was grocery shopping in Sainsbury’s. I never saw it before, but since it was a product designed to prevent lime scale, I thought I could give it a try. On the packaging it says that it helps to remove even the toughest lime scale and watermarks and when used regularly it will provide clean and shiny surfaces. That sounded quite promising so I bought a 500ml spray bottle for £3.20. Once I returned home, I decided to use the new product to good use and started off with the kitchen sink. I made use to wear gloves while using this product, since it contains a lot of chemicals and it does warn you about skin irritations.

You’re supposed to use this product for the kitchen and bathroom, like sink, shower, tabs etc. I have been using it for the kitchen sink, shower and bathroom sink and it has worked wonders. A little bit of this product will go a long way. The lime scale and watermarks were quite tough so I let it soak for a few minutes before rinsing it and almost immediately, the original shine of returned.

This product is designed for surfaces, but should not be used on hot, damaged, or acid sensitive surfaces for example gold, silver, copper, aluminium etc. On top of that it is not suitable for household appliances such as waterboilers, washing machines, kettles and so on.

Overall, this is a great product. I can highly recommend it to anyone who is struggling to keep their kitchen and bathrooms free from lime scale and watermarks. I have already been recommending this product to my friends and family and they love it as well. However, this product is quite aggressive and toxic to the environment, so I make sure to only use as little as possible.
