When I was in my early twenties, just a few years ago, I decided to take a trip across the world. I travelled to some far flung places from India and Thailand to New Zealand and Australia, over a number of months. Before I left I decided to take out a travel insurance policy, because I was due to be staying in some very low budget hostels, and I was also going to be doing a number of sports and outdoor activities as I made my way across these countries.
I looked at a price comparison site to start off with, and then evaluated each insurance company via their website, and I was most impressed with Alpha, whom I took out a Longstay policy with. The policy was really good value and it was tailored towards backpackers, so it included a huge range of different countries, and for just a small amount more I had the excess reduced by a considerable amount, which was very helpful as I envisaged having to claim a lot!
The other great thing about the policy was that it covered a huge number of different activities, including some extreme sports, such as bungee jumping, abseiling and tubing.
