We decided to look into home contents cover when we started to buy some expensive items for the home, we figured that with several computers, laptops, smart phones, TVs and games consoles, that we would loose a lot of money if anything every happened to them.
After comparing a few different insurance policies we decided to go for Home Insurance with Swift Cover, as it was really affordable and it gave good options for expensive individual items, and a great overall cover at the lowest end.
Luckily we haven’t ever had to look into making a major claim, but early this year our fridge freezer broke, and because we live in rented accommodation we had to wait a few days for the landlord to arrange getting it repaired, and then consequently after learning it was broken for good, getting a new one installed. We had no options when it came to saving any of the freezer and fridge food items, and having only just done an expensive shop stocking up with dinners that we made fresh and froze for ease during the week, we lost a lot of food and money. We went to our home insurance policy to see if they would cover the food loss, but they were rather unhelpful, and the excess outweighed the cost of the loss, so we just had to take the hit.
I know we probably should have looked into the excess for each element of the cover before we took it out, but it’s in times like that when you feel you should be able to reply on your insurance provider, and yet it just felt like a dead end, and a waste of money.
