When my son was ready to move into his big boy bed we purchased this Foscam video monitor. Upon opening the box, we were pleasantly surprised that there were very few components. Because this monitor does not connect to the Internet, setup is beyond easy. Once we found an appropriate location for the camera, it was only a matter of minutes before we were up and running. Adjusting the camera positioning to cover the needed area was not hard to do at all, even without reading the manual.
The daytime picture is crystal-clear, and the Foscam monitor is extremely sensitive to sound. The monitor picks up the ticking of the clock across the room and the sounds of our movement throughout the house. Another great feature of this monitor is the intercom. My husband first tried it out when we set up the monitor, and the voice that comes across is not distorted or robotic at all, which is often the case with the intercom feature on monitors. Additionally, the delay is only about a second or so, which is important when trying to keep a baby from crawling out of bed before you get to him. The monitor includes a VOX feature, though I have not used it.
There are some definite negative features of this monitor, however. The night vision is awful. Unless my son is at the end of the bed that is nearest the camera, I cannot make out his body at all. This could probably be solved by moving the bed closer to the monitor, but then he would be able to reach the cord, and that's a safety hazard. The zoom feature is a joke - it just enlarges the picture, it does not actually zoom in. Finally, the parent unit does not hold a charge very well. If the unit is charged to 100 percent, it will be at 50 percent within 2 hours and dead within 4.
Overall, the monitor does a sufficient job at monitoring my son. The price was too low to beat, so I guess I got what I paid for.
