Cons: not moisturising

There was so much hype around this product that eventually I gave into it and picked up one of these lip balms from Boots on my latest shopping trip. I have never tried it before nor do I know anyone who has bought this so I relied on the hype and the internet for all the reviews., although I have to say that it was more of an impulse buy and something that I have thoroughly researched and thought through. I am using the original Carmex lip balm and I am very happy with it. I have been using it for years and it’s my go-to lip balm, especially for the winter.

Nevertheless, I felt adventurous and decided to buy the Maybelline Baby Lips. The packaging was kind of cute, so why not. It’s supposed to be a tinted lip balm I believe and there are 6 different shades to choose from. As I like my lips to look nude, I went for the purple one, which is called Peach Kiss, because it is supposed to give your lips a peach coloured tint. It promises to give your lips 8 hours of hydration for baby soft lips, as well as SPF 20 to protect your lips from harmful UV rays. My Carmex lip balm doesn’t have anySPF and I thought it was important to protect your lips as well, since I always use sunscreen for my face it only made sense not to leave out the lips.

The packaging is fairly standard. It’s a stick balm, which you can twist. So there is not much to say about that. The product itself was in my opinion a let-down. It wasn’t as good as I expected from all the hype but at the same time I already saw it coming. It leaves this shiny film on your lips with an unnoticeable tint and it doesn’t moisturise my lips at all. They don’t feel softer or any more hydrated. I also have to reapply it every 30 minutes. If I had known that I wouldn’t have purchased this product. While the Carmex lip balm actually leaves a tingling sensation on my lips, this one doesn’t do anything. It doesn’t even feel like I have any lip balm on nor do I feel that it provides any long-term relief for dry lips.

All in all this is a disappointing product. Having used the Carmex lip balm for years, I feel the Maybelline Baby Lips doesn’t even come close to it. Of course you might have a different opinion on this product, because it depends on the skin type and maybe if I had picked a different colour I would have at least liked the tint that it would give on my lips. Nonetheless, it’s just an overhyped product put in some quirky packaging to get the buyers attention. I definitely won’t be buying any other Maybelline Baby Lips. For that money you can buy the Carmex lip balm instead, which I highly recommend, especially when you have really dry and chapped lips during winter time.

I am totally in love with the Maybellines Baby Lips electro collection. I purchased the Strike-a-Rose and it works great like a lip gloss because it adds shine to my lips. The lip balm has a nice pink color in it and when I applied it on gives a sweet color to my lips. Read more
