Urban Decay came out with the first Naked Palette in 2010 and I bought mine 3-4 years ago. It was the first palette of its kind that contain warm neutral shades that are great for a subtle day to day look as well as darker shades for a smokey eye, if you want to go out at night. The palette has 12 matte, shimmery and glittery shades. It also comes with a mini-size Urban Decay Primer Potion as well as an eye shadow brush, which comes in quite handy.

The packaging is made out of cardboard with a brown velvety cover. When you open it up there is a small mirror included, but personally I don’t use. I really like how compact and sturdy the packaging is, especially because I travel a lot and although I have dropped it a few times, it has protected the eye shadows pretty well and none of them have shattered. The only downside about the packaging is, that the velvet cover picks up all the dust, which you can clean by using a lint roller or some tape.

The eye shadows themselves are really good quality and live up to Urban Decay’s brand name. They are highly pigmented and are very easy to apply with minimal fallout, which I find is quite important, because I tend to apply my eye-makeup after having done my foundations and I have to be really careful not to ruin my existing makeup. However the eye shadows from this palette are very buttery and almost creamy when applying them, which makes blending easy.

My most used shades are Virgin, Buck and Hustle, although I have to say that I love and use all shades. I just tend to use these three shades a little more often than others. Virgin is my go-to highlight shade for the brow bone and Buck is not only great eye shadow to create a subtle no-makeup look but I also use it to contour the sides of my nose to make it appear a little taller and create the illusion of depth, since my nose bridge is very low. Hustle is a great shade that I use as a wearable day-time makeup look. I just make sure to blend it out properly, so it’s not too dark.

When I do the eye makeup for the night out, I always make sure to use the Primer Potion first, because it really helps the eye shadows to stay all night long, although I have to admit, that it makes blending a little harder. Nevertheless, it’s great if you have oily eyelids and you don’t want your eye makeup to smudge on a wild night out. The primer potion is also great during summer when it’s really warm and you just want your makeup to last during a hot and sweaty day.

Comparing the Urban Decay’s first Naked Palette with the second one, I would definitely recommend the first one. I just find that it works really well on any skin colour and I prefer warm-toned neutral colours over the cooler tones of the Naked 2 Palette. Even though I have both palettes I find myself using the original palette over the Naked 2 one. But whichever palette you buy, you won’t be disappointed. Another reason why I Urban Decay, and this is something that I feel strongly about, is that none of their products or ingredients are tested on animals.

This is the first of the Urban Decay Naked Palette series that I've bought and I don't know why I didn't buy it sooner.  I think it was out of fear. I was afraid that out of all of the other eyeshadow colors I have, this would be a waste of money. Read more
