I have done quite a bit of research on walking shoes, because I walk all the time. It is my primary form of exercise. And I have tried on a lot of walking shoes too (just ask Zappos!) One web site devoted to power walking recommended these New Balance walking shoes (among others). They have been fantastic. A good walking shoe should have at least a half last (that thick cardboard-type base in the shoe to keep it stable). These have a full last, and they are really stable. Lots of running shoes are ok for walking, but the side-to-side stability just is not there. These walking shoes have that in spades. They also have enough depth that I can wear them with a ¼” heel lifter and orthotics, both of which I need every day. I have worn these shoes indoors for video workouts, on city walks on pavement, and off road on hikes, and they’ve held up like Olympic champions. Usually I have to replace my walking shoes every six months or so because they start to feel flat and worn out, but these feel exactly the same nine months later as they did when I bought them. These are a good purchase! (I bought the men’s version because I have a long foot, and NB makes men’s narrow, so the men’s size was the best fit).
