OPI – Houston We Have A Purple Review
Nail Polish Front
As a girl who loves to look cute, I always strive to have my nails painting. Because of this, I've found brands that I love and ones that I don't. I've also figured out what colors work for me and what don't.
I've always been a fan of OPI nail colors, especially there cute and fun names! This particular shade threw me off at first but it eventually grew on me and now I love it. Read on to find my thoughts:
Holding Nail Polish
I picked up OPI's Houston We Have A Purple at my local beauty supply store for like $6. The bottle just came by itself and is the standard size bottle. I tried to take the sticker off that the beauty supply store put on and it kinda stuck on there. I hate it when this happens!
Now, the color looks super vibrant in the bottle, but once you start to look at it on the brush, you'll see how the consistency it looks – like liquid or watery. It's definitely a sorbet/jelly texture as opposed to a cream or glitter. I prefer the crème and glitter polishes because they look better with my skin tone.
This color looks very different in the bottle than it does applied to the nail. Like wine. This is why I picked this shade up in the store. I love the color of it, after I got the hang of using it. It's looks exactly like red wine to me. Perfect for fall, this berry color is a clean, classic candy-like pink that is more like a jelly look.
Color On Nail
The surface is extraordinarily shiny and smooth, just amazingly glossy, and with three coats, the color depth is really pretty. I'd even consider applying four coats if I were more patient!
For me, this polish started chipping after four days which is pretty typical of OPI polishes on my nails. I put this particular coat on Friday and it's Monday so you can see a few chips in it.
You will definitely need at least a third coat for this color because of the transparency! This means you'll have to use more product for less applications. I'm not really a fan of that which is why I was extremely hesitant about this color to begin with. Especially after you apply the first coat, it looks so transparent! Not something I expected from OPI.
I also made sure to use a base and top coat. I went with the OPI base coat and top coat. The color almost looks too dull without a top coat. I guess the top coat really just brings out the color!
I can see myself adding a sparkly on top for a fun winter holiday look! You can also use a corresponding color as a base and use this shade on top.
Not sure if I'd buy it again but I will use it up since I already bought it!
