I find most hamster products, and exercise wheels in particular, frustrating. The majority of the wheels are too small for Syrian hamsters despite those being the most common species that people keep as pets. A lot of them have mesh or bars as surfaces, which has been shown to be terrible for hamsters' feet, even sometimes causing them to get their feet caught in the bars and break their legs. It's as if the manufacturers have no idea what hamsters are even like. Then there's the issue with many of the wheels being so freaking noisy - considering hamsters are nocturnal and usually exercise at night, who wants to hear a rattly wheel all throughout the night?
This 12-inch silent spinner was one of the few wheels I came across that I could feel comfortable giving my hamster. It's durable and has a flat surface so she won't get her feet caught anywhere. My only real complaints are that the wheel is nowhere near silent, and the back of it is difficult to take apart, so I haven't been able to save some cage space by mounting the wheel to the back of her cage like you're supposed to be able to do. I also wish the company made the wheels in a few more size varieties. They go from 8.5 inches to 12 inches, and 12 inches is way too large and space-consuming, while 8.5 inches is too small for many hamsters. Compared to my other options, however, this wheel is excellent. My hamster has been using it since November and seems to love it.
