I've tried probably a dozen different types of cat litters. My favorite for a long time was the corn cob litter, but my significant other hated how it tracked. We would even find it in our bed. He has a mild cat allergy, so this was definitely a problem for us. The hunt was on.. again.
I had heard some good things about silica gel crystal litter, so when I found the Mimi litter at Wal-Mart for only $4, I had to try it out. I love it so far. The tracking is minimal and almost exclusively stays around the cat litter when kitty gets out of the box. It's dusty when it's poured, but otherwise we don't find a layer of dust covering everything.
It appears this litter keeps stinky odors to a minimum. However, if your cat does not cover their solid waste, you will smell it. No litter is going to hide that smell if it's on top and not buried. This is not a clumping litter, so when liquid goes into the box, the crystals absorb the wet and trap it. No liquid hanging out at the bottom of the box and no clumps to remove. We do scoop solid waste daily, so that helps. The litter needs to be changed about once every 2 - 3 weeks. If it's getting a bit stinky, then it's no longer trapping the odors and needs to be dumped out. My cat likes this litter better than her corn cob litter, it's softer for her feet.
This is definitely a winner at my house!
