When our doggies go for long hikes, we make them carry their own water and food in their own backpacks. So they don’t have to haul big metal bowls, we bought them a pair of PetSport Pack My Bowls. One’s for kibble, so it has a drawstring so it can carry extra food. The other’s a simple collapsible version to be used for food or water but not storage.
Both Pack My Bowls have ripstop shells with a waterproof interior. When it’s folded for carrying, the water bowl is only about 1½” in diameter and 5” long. When unfolded, it opens to 5” high and 6” in diameter; large enough for a half-gallon of water. Our large dogs (Labs and mutts) have never had problems getting their heads inside to lap up the water. The water bowl has a little elastic loop to keep it closed, plus a teeny carabiner to use as a belt or collar clip. It air dries quickly, and when it gets dirty you can hand wash it using mild soap and water. A minor gripe is that we have problems keeping it completely open unless we’re holding it, so we can’t just fill it and let the dogs drink at will. Our Pack My Bowl set is several years old and well used, but they look as though they’ll last a good long time. One thing that bugs me, though, is that PetSport USA’s logo – a cartoon-style US flag with a doggy paw print instead of stars – suggests “made in America,” but on the back of the tag it says, “Made in China.” Oops.
