I normally use Scoop Away litter because I can get it cheap at Costco. The last time I bought litter, though, I got some Tidy Cats 24/7 Performance Clumping instead. The difference surprised me.
Perhaps because the litter box is out of sight (and “nose shot”) in the basement, we only scoop Kitty’s box every other day or so. We quickly realized that wasn’t going to work with this litter. We noticed two problems:
- This clumping litter doesn’t clump. Sure, some of the granules stick together, but many clumps fall apart when you try to scoop them from the litter box.
- Although heavily perfumed, the litter doesn’t absorb odor. You can smell ammonia twenty feet away! That’s probably because the clumps fall apart, leaving urine-soaked grains scattered throughout the box. Instead of being going in the trash can in the garage, the stink is still there in the basement.
On the positive side, the big plastic buckets are cool, but I already have plenty around, and don’t need any more. I just need one to store my next purchase of Scoop Away.
