As an arts educator, and mother, I have tried several brands of oil pastels. Cray-Pas' junior artist oil pastels are small in size and made for little hands. The oil crayons come in a wide array of colors, and are easily blendable.
These oil crayons are ideal for art-making at home or in school. Their oily nature allows kids to blend more than one color, mixing up their own hues. They come in bright hues that will appeal to the young artist.
Another aspect of this product that is a plus is that they are non-toxic. I always have concerns about using crafting products with kids when it comes to the toxicity of them. This product is non-toxic. While a child shouldn't ingest it, the non-toxic rating does make me feel better about letting the kids use it. The effect is almost like oil paint, but without such as mess or the potential safety hazard to kids.
When it comes to the price, Cray-Pas' oil pastels are affordable. they last a long time and don't easily break or wear down, making them a good value for the money.
The only drawback is the mess factor. Although they are less mess than paints, they are greasy and do take some scrubbing to remove from a child's hands.
