I initially bought the Leap Frog Disney The Pirate Fairy: Pixie Dust Magic LeapPad Game for my daughter as a reward for doing well in her PreK class. However, it was definitely a great investment.
This digital download takes up 29 MB on all LeapPad and Leapster Explorer devices except the LeapPad Platinum and LeapPad Ultra which require 46 MB. The game helps teach about Physical Science, and provides a fun way to learn logic and reasoning, problem solving, forces and motion, as well as simple machines.
The story premise of the game is about Tinker Bell knocking over a vial of blue pixie dust, causing the fairies' colors and talents to get mixed up. The goal is to help Zarina (the fairy dust keeper) to set things right by using levers and simple machines to create new pixie dust. The game features puzzles that increase in difficulty; information about how Tink's gadget work (ex. pulleys and inclined planes), with ways to add Tink's gadgets to Zarina's contraptions to test out how they work; as well as ways to mix and created new colors of pixie dust.
Although the game recommends it for ages 5-8, my daughter was four when she received it and has had no issues playing the game. In fact, it's become one of her favorites, and she is fascinated by the game. Plus as a parent I love that it gradually become more difficult as she progresses. The only downfall I have for this game is that it is only available via digital download; and if I hadn't had online credits, I never would know about it.
Overall, I highly recommend the Leap Frog Disney The Pirate Fairy: Pixie Dust Magic LeapPad Game. It is easy to understand, grows with your child, and is a great educational game option.
