I know you are probably shocked to see less than five stars for the traditional, tried-and-true Monopoly board game. While it is fun, the set up can take awhile (handing out money and reviewing the rules) and game play can be long. Even though the box says ages 8 and up, it may even be better for older kids. There is quite a bit of math involved, and because the game may take awhile to finish younger kids might lose interest fairly quickly. All of that said, this board game is one of the most traditional games out there. The concept is simple: roll the dice and make your way around the board, buying and selling property as you go. You can build houses and hotels and collect rent for extra income. There is a fine line between prosperity and bankruptcy, however, and you learn that quickly while playing this game. The Chance and Community Chest cards add a little twist to the game, just enough to keep things from getting boring. This is definitely a great game for a long, rainy day or when you are snowed in with nowhere to go. I would recommend having it in your game closet, if only for use as a go-to game when you feel like settling in for a couple of hours.
