Our youngest loves Elmo. It was one of the first words she could say, so we thought it was only fitting to buy her an Elmo toy for Christmas. We opted for the Big Hugs Elmo toy. It was supposed to talk, cuddle and hug when she squeezed it. It worked in the box at the store, so we got it home, wrapped it and she opened it at Christmas. It worked once, then stopped. So we thought it was a battery issue. We replaced the batteries and it started to work again. It was cute and she loved it. It did hug her when she hugged it first — as advertised. But, it was really clunky. The Elmo is super stiff and very touchy. If you don’t hit the button just right, it doesn’t go off — which isn’t easy for an 18-month old to figure out. But, after about a month it just stopped working altogether.
We bought a second one thinking this one was just defective, but this one did it too. The doll itself is very heavy and hard for my daughter to carry around. She can’t take a nap or snuggle with it, because it’s stiff and hard. We kept it so she could sit with it, but it doesn't work anymore.
I wouldn’t recommend this version of the Elmo doll. It was a good concept, but overall really disappointing.
