We ended up opening an account at Collins Credit Union because we thought they might be good to have as a backup for getting an Auto or Motorcycle Loan. The staff is very friendly at all of the branches and also very helpful and knowledgeable. The issues I have are more towards the credit union itself and it's policies. One of the issues I have is that you can only use your debit card as an actual debit card no more then 10 times per month. If you decide to use it more then 10 times, then you get a fee for each time you use it as a debit card. They want you to use it as a credit card every time you make purchases for some reason. The problem I have with that is that you are waiting for it to come out of your account, whereas with a debit, it comes out right away. Another issue we have is that we cannot transfer funds back and forth to our accounts online, unless I put my husband's name on my account. We have 2 separate accounts because I needed one with only my name on it. So, if we want to transfer funds, we have to call into the offices every time, which is very inconvenient. The smartphone app is very lame also. You can't do much at all, other then look at your accounts and make a transfer from Saving to Checking or vice versa. You can't transfer funds to a different member's account or into your account, or pay bills or deposit checks and so on. We have decided to close our accounts there next month and stay with Veridian Credit Union only.
