I love my freestyle light. I have used glucose meters that took a whole pint of blood (or it felt that way) in order to get an accurate reading. Freestyle lite only takes the tiniest prick of blood to work. One of the best things about it is that I don't have to take the reading from my fingers all the time. I type all the time and I also play harp and guitar. It is very painful when you are constantly pricking the tips of your fingers to get a reading and I have to take readings three times a day. With the freestyle lite, I can take some of my readings on my arm instead of on the tips of my fingers.
You do not have to do anything to the meter in order to get good readings. Many other meters have to have something inserted in them periodically or they have to be re calibrated Freestyle light does not need this. You just stick a strip in, prick your finger and put it on the strip. That is it, you don't have to do anything else. The meter saves your sugar readings so you can report them to the doctor. You can plug it into your computer and get a print out. It is the most trouble free, accurate meter I have ever used and I've been a diabetic for over 20 years.
