I thought all blenders were the same until I tried the Vitamix 5200. It blends like no other blender can. I joined in on the green smoothie craze, but had trouble drinking smoothies with chunks of fruits and vegetables in them. I like my smoothies to be smooth so I don't have to pick bits of spinach and kale out of my teeth. The high-speed motor in the Vitamix 5200 liquefies everything that you put inside. Even flax seeds are no match for it. It's also powerful enough to handle frozen fruits with no problem. I frequently toss whole frozen bananas in the jug without worrying about tearing up the blades or burning out the motor. The plunger makes it easy to mix everything around so that all ingredients blend evenly no matter how thick it is. I use the Vitamix on a daily basis to make green smoothies as well as fruit "ice cream" for the kids, but you can also use it to make soups, dips, sauces, etc. It has variable speeds so you can start off on low to begin breaking up the ingredients, and then work your way up to high to make sure they blend completely. I've found that it is a great way to sneak a few servings of vegetables into your diet.
